NYSOMS Announces Poster Competition Winners

Close to 80 osteopathic medical  interns residents and students participated in NYSOMS' annual Poster Competition, held in conjunction with ROC-NY 2017. Interns and residents were eligible to submit case studies or experimental research, while students were limited to experimental research only. The judges had some tough decisions to make, but these winners emerged:

1st Place:  Michael de Guzman, DO, Traditional Intern, St. John's Episcopal  Hospital --"An Atypical Case of Anton Syndrome as a Result of Bilateral Optic Neuropathy"   

2nd Place:  Semhar Teklezgi, DO, Internal Medicine Resident, Palisades Medical Center--"Life Threatening Clot Burden in a Patient with Crohns Disease"                     
3rd Place, Melissa Meghpara, DO, General Surgery Resident, Flushing Hospital Medical Center--"Idiopathic Infrarenal Aortic Inflammation Status Post Aortic Stent Graft "           

1st Place:  Danielle Vanderet, DO, General Surgery resident, SBH Health System--"The Utility of Zip Ties for Thoracostomy Tube Management"                           
2nd Place: Vanessa L. Yoo, DO, General Surgery resident, Flushing Hospital Medical Center--"The Unnecessary: Optimization of the Blood Bank for the Surgical Patient"         

3rd Place: Erica Beauplan, DO, Internal Medicine Resident, Southampton Hospital--"Assessment of Hospital Discharge Procedure Policies in Overall Patient Education and Satisfaction"

1st Place: Jake Lichterman OMSIII, TouroCOM Harlem--"A Novel Role for 17-β Estradiol and Testosterone in Osteosarcoma Tumorigenesis and Metastasis"

2nd Place:  Nicole Angelo, OMSIII, NYITCOM--"The Reliability of King Devick (KD) Testing in Predicting Concussion Symptom Severity in Student Athletes"

3rd Place: Nicholas Faron, OMSII, TouroCOM Middletown--"Excimer Laser Refractive Surgery and Intraocular Lens Implantation Outcomes on Children with Neurological Impairment"
